Pura Facades appointed as sole UK distributor of TONALITY® Terracotta.

Pura Facades, the country’s leading supplier of natural, non-combustible cladding products has been appointed as the exclusive distributor of TONALITY® terracotta tiles in the UK. Already known for its wide portfolio of Austrian-manufactured glass reinforced concrete (GRC) tiles from Rieder, Pura also supplies brickslip and unitised wood façade products on a fabricated, just-in-time basis to both private and local authority construction projects.

The addition of TONALITY® to Pura’s portfolio is an exciting development for architects and developers in the UK, providing them with a consistent and reliable supply of high-quality, A1 rated terracotta tiles that are manufactured to the highest quality standards in Germany. Made from the world famous Westerwald clay and manufactured by the kerlis sinter kiln method, Tonality can justifiably claim to be among the best terracotta façade products on the market.

Available in more than 50 standard colours (and in seven surface finishes), the Tonality range provides architects and developers with a huge range of creative and aesthetic possibilities for their projects. Tiles are available in large sizes, up to 600m x 2m, providing better coverage than other terracotta manufacturers. Tonality is also available in lamella, baguette and brise soleil shapes.

Commenting on the exclusive appointment, James Butler, commercial director of Pura Facades, said: “We are already well known for our ability to provide the highest quality, naturally sourced facade products, backed up by great service and a genuinely consultative approach. That’s why we are so pleased to be representing the Tonality brand in the UK as it widens further the portfolio of brands we can offer to designers, developers and contractors.

“While the quality of its tiles are second to none, the cost of TONALITY® products is remarkably competitive. That’s why we are sure there is a very bright future for this brand of terracotta facades in the UK.”

Award-winning project references already exist for TONALITY® terracotta in Europe including The Wave leisure resort in Vejle, Denmark and Paracelsus Bad spa in Saltzburg. In the UK, outstanding Tonality projects include Maggie’s Centre in Nottingham and Quartermile luxury apartments in Edinburgh.

More recently, Tonality’s sustainable credentials have been confirmed via two remediation projects in Greater London – Bailey Tower and Harrison House in London E1 and Luma Apartments (part of the Central Middlesex Hospital development) in Park Royal, west London. Both buildings were discovered to contain ineffective fire barriers, poor quality insulation or inappropriate use of timber beneath the existing, compliant terracotta façade. While the Tonality product is non-flammable and exceeding all safety standards, the non-compliant insulation, timbers and fixings all had to be replaced with appropriate, tested and safe alternative materials.

The Luma Apartment complex in Park Royal is clad in a 26mm thick glazed TONALITY® in eye-catching green. This project uses stand-out terracotta on both the main tower block of the building as well as on every balcony, providing punches of colour to the exterior.

Bailey Tower and Harrison House, a stone’s throw from St Katharine’s and Wapping, uses smooth TONALITY® ceramic façade tiles in Umbra Grey to create a strong urban look to this modern block. A significant project comprising 833m2 of cladding, this work involved Pura delivering ‘kits of parts’ on pallets to site, which contained not only the replacement terracotta tiles, but also high quality replacement fixings and aluminium framework from Nvelope.

Given the high aesthetic possibilities, A1 safety rating, sustainability and relatively low cost of the TONALITY® range, Pura is predicting strong demand for this product choice as the UK economy emerges from the dampening effects of the coronavirus.
