the process

Peabody Estates approved a highly impact resistant and A1 fire class GRC cladding panel product manufactured by Rieder, with a textured concrete finish in a matt white colour to add brightness and contrast to the adjacent brickwork. The panels frame the walkways and add a grid structure to the external facade. The U-shaped panels will weather naturally and evenly over time like the brick, giving a traditional stone look and feel.

The installation process involved using an overhead line and chandelier attachment with continuous vacuum suction pads. The fixers presented each panel into place and hung them via the hooks attached to the rear onto the carrier rail, which had been previously installed on the building substrate.

Despite the installation taking place during covid restrictions, the work was completed efficiently with no disruption due to all parties involved working in an effective manner.

This is not a budget option so often associated with social housing construction in the past but represents a required step in change in a post-Grenfell era.
