Concrete Skin GRC Flat Panels – BBA Approved

Fibre C Facades

Concrete Skin Facades

Developed by Rieder, the Fibre C product range is exclusively supplied by Pura Facades and is the only GRC lightweight concrete panel available in the UK that is 13mm – the thinnest GRC concrete panel around.

As a lightweight concrete façade panel, the Fibre C concrete panel is ideal for cladding as it’s a stable and lightweight material with the ability to withstand a British winter, whilst being sustainable and an excellent choice when aesthetics are key.

The combination of glass fibre and concrete to form a Glass reinforced concrete façade or GRC is the strengthening component for the panel. Fibre C is very much an acronym of these words “glassfibre” and “concrete”. This concrete panel offers class A1 fire resistance, long-term durability and is CWCT and BBA certified.

There are two layers of glass mesh fibres running through the concrete panel which enables the concrete panel to be only 13mm thick but incredibly dense. With traditional GRC products offering thicknesses of 20-25mm, Pura Facades can supply the UK market with 13mm thickness – therefore falling in line with standard ventilated facade panels and fixing systems. The weight of the panels is an average 29/30kg per square metre. This thinner and lightweight concrete panel offers logistical advantages as the concrete panels are easier and more lightweight to transport to site, plus with the reduced thickness of the concrete, the steel framing can also be lighter, making projects more cost effective. It also means from a holistic engineering viewpoint Fibre C GRC requires a significantly less primary structure to carry the loading of the concrete panels.

Despite the very durable nature of GRC, one of the key benefits that Fibre C GRC offers is its ability to be moulded and shaped. Each panel can be formed in U-shapes, arches, corners or other 3D shapes. Fibre C GRC offers a wide range of possibilities for printing on the surface of the panel, irradiating designs, cutting out ornaments or lettering or incorporating a relief-like surface (e.g. a wood structure).

Fibre C GRC is also available in a 3D range, where the lightweight concrete panels can be formed into 2D and 3D formed elements. This Natural Façade Cladding is popular in hot climates to keep sun off of a building in a solar shading design format, while still providing ventilation. With special colour ranges, perforations, individual forms and three-dimensional elements, Fibre C GRC offers individual planners ample scope for creativity.

Concrete skin panels are manufactured in two lengths and thicknesses. Rieder offer special productions of 1250mm widths and up to 4m lengths. All concrete skin panels can be fabricated to your exacting requirements.

Concrete Skin Panel Sizes:

  • 1200 x 2500mm
  • 1200 x 3100mm
  • 1200 x 3600mm

Panel Thicknesses:

  • 13mm

By end of 2017 we expect the new width sheet size of 1500mm to be introduced. In addition we offer panel lengths of up to 4 metres upon specific project request.

Colours may vary due to technical reasons and the printing process, please request a sample.

Concrete skin is available in 10 classic colours, each in 3 surfaces creating a vivid design on any façade. Concrete skin can also be produced in RAL colours upon request. The three surface finishes consist of sand blasted (FE- Ferro), finely sandblasted (FL- Ferro Light) and brushed (MA-Matt).

Rieder Concrete skin offers a distinct advantage over other colour-treated materials by creating a consistent colouring through the whole panel, allowing each panel to obtain its natural appearance from all angles including the rear. The mixture of the desired colour is created before the actual production process and becomes part of the product by being blended with the raw materials. Concrete skin is coloured by ferric oxide colours and natural additions and subsequently sandblasted. The pigments used in the liquid colours are UV and weather resistant and not soluble in water, providing durable, long lasting colour. Due to the characteristics of natural cement, slight variations occur in colour between production batches. If the uniform colour appearance is desired, we recommend placing full orders so the batch is cohesive. Concrete skin offers the possibilities of creating different shades by laying different textures next to each other in the same colour. This creates variance and interest through texture differential alone. There are three different textures available.

For concrete skin installation, we recommend using three main fixing methods which include face fix, concealed fix with anchor and bolt, and concealed fix with adhesive. Bespoke fixing systems can also be recommended but for best results, speak to our technical team first on 0203 269 2052.
